Children Programs
Every year, after the Summer Reading Program is over, Read To Me starts. This time we concentrate on the little ones who can’t really read alone yet. During this time anyone can read to the little ones including siblings or aunts and uncles, basically anyone the child can convince to read to them counts.
As you read 12 library books, you keep track of the titles on a sheet that you receive when you sign your child up for the program. After you have read the required number of books, just turn in the list and he or she is eligible for the grand prize drawing.
Any time you spend reading to your child is time well spent, promotes the love of reading, and is a great bonding tool. Take it as far as you want, change your voice for the different characters or act out the whole story with them. We don’t care how you do it, we just want children to learn the joy of reading and as soon as we can get that done, the better off your child will be.
Starts every October, after the ‘big kids’ are in school.

You know how it often is, you intend to read to your children, you want to read to your children…..”but”…something gets in the way – your job, laundry, dishes or anything else you have to do. We’ve created this program to help you insure that your toddlers learn to love reading and help you get a little time away with them. They love it and so will you!

Wouldn’t you like to keep your child engaged in learning over the summer break in a rewarding and fun way? Just think, they can build their vocabulary, learn and practice good grammar skills, go on an adventure in knowledge and have a good time, all by reading books!
Our Summer Reading Program is designed to challenge readers and provide a structure for them to spend some quality time reading with an accountability program to assist in not getting too distracted with television and video games.
All you have to do is sign up and read the required number of age appropriate books in the allotted program time – don’t worry it’s a breeze! There’s a party with even more goodies at the end of the program. We’ve even got a Summer Reading Program for adults too.
The Summer Reading Program begins in May with a kick off party and ends with a completion party in July. Every year there is a different “theme” and there are many activities planned around that “theme!” Program is available at both Fort Branch and Haubstadt locations.
Take a craft or activity kit home and make it with your family! The first Wednesday of every month, we have “Grab & Go Kids Craft/Activity Kits” available at both locations, during open hours. Kits are free while supplies last and include everything needed to make a craft or do an activity (apart from supplies like scissors and tape or glue). Sometimes our kits are themed around other library events (like Summer Reading Program or holidays). Don’t miss the opportunity to spend some quality time with your child at home; grab a kit and go have fun!
After School Game Day runs with the School Calendar. One time per month Kindergarten to 5th grade students are able to join at the library to participate in games and activities. We have many board games they can use, coloring pages and markers are provided and we even supply yard games when the weather allows. Kindergarten through 2nd grade is on the second Tuesday of the month after school and 3rd through 5th grade is on the third Tuesday of the month. Check the calendar on this web page to see when the next one is scheduled.
